0

The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship, widely called the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship or SVMCM, is one of West Bengal’s main merit-cum-means support programmes for students continuing higher studies. It covers eligible learners from Class 11 and 12 to undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, technical, medical and selected research-level courses. For 2026-27, students should be careful with dates: as of late September 2026, the official SVMCM portal is still displaying the 2025-26 application cycle, so a confirmed 2026-27 opening or last date should not be treated as announced until the Higher Education Department updates the portal.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2026-27 FAQs

Q. Can a student from outside the West Bengal board apply at HS level?

The official SVMCM guideline places board-specific conditions on HS-level eligibility. Applicants should check the current 2026-27 guideline before assuming an outside-board qualification is accepted.

Q. Why can a previous beneficiary fail to see the Renewal option?

The official FAQ says renewal is available only to applicants whose earlier scholarship was sanctioned. An unsanctioned or rejected previous application does not create renewal eligibility.

Q. Can minority students use the same renewal route?

Minority applicants are directed to the West Bengal Minority Development and Finance Corporation scholarship system for the relevant renewal route.

Q. Is an income certificate required for every category?

Not necessarily. The standard income ceiling applies to most SVMCM applicants, but some categories such as K3 or specified research applicants have different income-rule treatment.
