PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27: Application Registration Form, Eligibility, Last Date

0

The PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27 helps eligible students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh pursue undergraduate education at selected institutions outside their home Union Territories. Moving away for college can mean managing tuition, hostel bills, food, books and travel expenses at the same time. Under this scheme, approved students receive support towards academic fees and an annual maintenance allowance, making general, professional and medical degree courses more accessible to families that meet the income conditions.

PMSSS stands for Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme. The programme is now officially known as the Special Scholarship Scheme for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (SSSJKL) under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) Yojana. It is implemented by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Ministry of Education. Around 5,000 fresh scholarships are provided annually across general, professional and medical streams, with admission normally linked to AICTE’s online counselling or specific approved national entrance examination routes.

PMSSS Scholarship

For 2026-27, online fresh registration began on July 16 for Class 12 candidates and July 17 for engineering diploma holders; the revised application deadline was July 29, 2026. That fresh registration window has closed. Separately, students already receiving the scholarship can apply for renewal on the National Scholarship Portal until October 31, 2026. The distinction matters because the October deadline is not a new opportunity to submit the original AICTE admission application. Here are the confirmed eligibility rules, scholarship amounts, registration steps, document-verification procedure and current deadlines.

PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27 Overview

PMSSS is not a general scholarship for every college student in India. It is intended for eligible domiciled students of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh who enter an approved undergraduate course outside those Union Territories.

Any future opening must be confirmed through AICTE; the October 31 NSP date applies to renewal, not fresh AICTE admission.

Who Is Eligible for PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27?

The 2026-27 notification provides separate entry routes for Class 12 pass-outs and engineering diploma holders. The main conditions are as follows.

  • The applicant must hold domicile of Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh and have an annual family income of ₹8 lakh or less.
  • Class 12 candidates must have passed from a JKBOSE or CBSE-affiliated school located in Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh in the 2024-25 academic session (passed in 2025) or 2025-26 session (passed in 2026), as specified in the 2026-27 announcement.
  • Engineering diploma applicants must meet the notified 2025/2026 diploma qualification conditions under the J&K Board of Technical Education and seek lateral entry into the second year of an eligible engineering course.
  • The student must satisfy the age, subject, examination and other admission conditions of the selected institution. Architecture, medical, law and some central university courses have separate entrance requirements.
  • The eligible degree should ordinarily be undertaken at an approved institution outside the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, through an AICTE allotment or another specifically accepted admission route.
  • The applicant must complete AICTE online registration and compulsory verification at a Facilitation-cum-Document Verification Centre (FDVC). Registration alone does not establish eligibility or guarantee a scholarship.
  • Students already taking another scholarship, entering through a management quota or enrolling in an excluded diploma/postgraduate programme are not eligible under the scheme’s general exclusion rules.

Category certificates are relevant when an applicant claims a reservation benefit. SC, ST or another reserved-category certificate is not a universal requirement for applying: eligibility depends on the scheme’s domicile, income and academic conditions, with category-based reservations applied where appropriate.

PMSSS Scholarship Amount and Available Courses

The scheme combines an academic-fee ceiling, which varies by degree stream, with maintenance support intended for living and study expenses. The amounts below are annual ceilings, not necessarily fixed cash payments to the student.

Course / StreamAcademic Fee Support per YearMaintenance Allowance
General degrees, such as BA, BSc and BComUp to ₹30,000₹1 lakh per year
Professional courses, including engineering, nursing, pharmacy, hotel management and eligible architecture or law coursesUp to ₹1.25 lakh₹1 lakh per year
Medical courses, including MBBS/BDS and eligible equivalent degreesUp to ₹3 lakh₹1 lakh per year
Engineering diploma lateral entry into second yearUp to ₹1.25 lakhAs admissible under the applicable SSSJKL award rules

Under the scheme’s published structure, 2,070 fresh awards are earmarked for general degree courses, 2,830 for professional courses and 100 for medical courses, making a total of 5,000. Academic fees are paid to the institution within the prescribed ceiling and admissible fee rules, while the annual maintenance allowance is processed through NSP and is described in the 2026-27 advertisement as ten equal instalments. Receiving an allotment letter does not automatically mean that the full maximum fee will be paid or that payment will arrive immediately.

Documents Required for PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27

Students should prepare original certificates and clear scanned copies before completing registration. AICTE may also ask for records specific to the candidate’s category, examination or admission pathway.

  • Domicile certificate for Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh.
  • Class 10 certificate and marksheet; Class 12 certificate and marksheet for HSC applicants.
  • Engineering diploma marksheet or passing documents for lateral-entry applicants.
  • Current family income certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • Aadhaar card and the student’s active mobile number and email address.
  • Recent passport-size photograph, signature and parent/guardian photographs where the form requests them.
  • Valid category or disability certificate, if a reservation or related benefit is claimed.
  • Entrance examination registration, scorecard or allotment information for NEET, JEE, CUET, NATA or CLAT, where applicable.
  • Bank account in the student’s own name, with Aadhaar seeding for maintenance-allowance payment.
  • Printed AICTE application and original documents with self-attested copies for physical verification at the FDVC.

The final upload dimensions and acceptable file formats should be checked on the current application screen. Students attending document verification should retain their originals and collect the stamped verification report issued by the centre.

How to Apply for PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27

The fresh application is made on AICTE’s dedicated SSSJKL admission portal, not by choosing a similarly named PM scholarship on NSP. The process below describes the 2026-27 registration and admission workflow; the fresh registration period has already ended.

  1. Open the official AICTE portal: Visit aicte-jk-scholarship-gov.in and choose the appropriate Class 12/HSC or engineering diploma registration route.
  2. Enter qualifying examination information: Fill in the board, year of passing, roll number and candidate and parent names as recorded in the qualifying examination. JKBOSE applicants must add the specified prefix code; the AICTE portal also gives special CBSE roll-number prefixes for 2025 and 2026 pass-outs.
  3. Complete identity and contact details: Supply Aadhaar, a working mobile number, email address and the other information requested by the form.
  4. Create the account: Set the portal password and complete registration. Use a personal email and mobile number that will remain accessible during counselling.
  5. Sign in and fill the application: Log in with the email or Candidate ID and password; add domicile, family income, category, marks and other required details.
  6. Upload the supporting records: Attach the income, academic, domicile and additional certificates asked for by the portal. Check that each scan is legible.
  7. Submit and print the form: Review the application carefully, then save the completed form and candidate details for later communication.
  8. Attend compulsory document verification: Visit the nearest notified FDVC with the printout, original certificates and self-attested copies within the verification period.
  9. Fill college and course preferences: Once declared eligible, log in to select suitable courses and institutions. Check the admission requirements for each choice before locking preferences.
  10. Follow allotment and joining instructions: Check the merit list and seat-allotment results, take the required freeze/float action before the deadline, download the allotment letter and report to the institution or submit the permitted joining confirmation.

PMSSS Document Verification and Online Counselling

Document verification is not an optional formality. AICTE requires registered applicants to visit an authorised FDVC, where the records are checked against the online application. The verification service is free. Successful applicants should obtain the centre’s stamped verification report, which is important for subsequent counselling.

The allotment process considers verified eligibility, merit, applicable reservation rules, the student’s course choices and available seats. Applicants must respond to an allotted seat within the prescribed period. The freeze option signifies acceptance; selecting float means seeking consideration in a later round rather than holding the existing offer. A seat can be cancelled if the required confirmation or reporting is missed. Applicants should not expect a change of course or institution after final allotment.

PMSSS “On My Own Admission” Route

A separate pathway exists for registered students who obtain admission through recognised national entrance routes rather than relying exclusively on ordinary AICTE counselling. For 2026-27, the AICTE notice covered eligible admissions such as medical colleges through NEET; Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and other central universities; IITs and NITs; and National Law Universities through the relevant entrance process. Such admissions remain subject to verification, scheme rules and scholarship availability.

The applicant must already have registered under SSSJKL and completed the required eligibility verification. The student then submits qualifying entrance results and admission proof, such as a joining letter or fee receipt, through the AICTE portal’s “On My Own” facility. AICTE extended the final 2026-27 upload opportunity to October 12. It has now closed, and admission to a prestigious institution alone does not automatically produce a PMSSS scholarship award.

PMSSS Scholarship Login, Renewal and Payment Status

Fresh applicants and existing scholarship holders use different stages of the online system. Students in the AICTE admission and counselling process sign in on the dedicated SSSJKL portal using their email or Candidate ID and password. Registered applicants can view allotment information, download letters and raise a grievance through the relevant student login.

Existing awardees seeking renewal for 2026-27 should use the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. NSP requires One Time Registration (OTR) and the scholarship-specific application process. For the current renewal window, students must submit by October 31, institutes must complete verification by November 15 and the subsequent verification stage is scheduled through November 30. The AICTE portal advises that the separate second phase of fresh applications on NSP has not yet opened; students should wait for official instructions rather than submit an application under the wrong scheme.

The academic-fee component is generally settled with the approved institution, while maintenance payments are sent to the student’s Aadhaar-seeded account through NSP after the necessary registration and verification steps. Students should monitor both their AICTE scholarship record and NSP status rather than assuming that college admission equals payment approval.

Common Mistakes That Can Delay PMSSS Scholarship

  • Treating the October 31 NSP renewal deadline as a fresh 2026-27 AICTE registration extension.
  • Attempting a fresh NSP application under another scholarship while AICTE’s correct second-phase process remains unopened.
  • Entering Class 12 roll numbers without the required JKBOSE or CBSE prefix.
  • Completing the form but failing to attend the FDVC for physical document verification.
  • Selecting a course without checking its subject, entrance-test or institution eligibility conditions.
  • Missing seat confirmation or joining deadlines after AICTE allotment.
  • Assuming an independent NEET/JEE/CUET admission is eligible without prior SSSJKL registration and verification.
  • Using an account that is inactive, belongs to a parent or has not been properly Aadhaar seeded for maintenance payment.
  • Relying on agents promising guaranteed admission or asking students to pay for AICTE document verification.

PMSSS Scholarship 2026-27 FAQs

Q. Does a student who has secured a medical seat through NEET automatically qualify for PMSSS?

No. An independently secured medical seat does not, by itself, create scholarship entitlement. The student must have registered with AICTE under SSSJKL, completed eligibility verification and supplied the admission proof in the approved route. Awards are subject to scheme rules and availability.

Q. Can a candidate retain the first allotted college while choosing float for another counselling round?

Students should not assume that they can keep both options. AICTE’s counselling instructions explain that floating relinquishes the claim on the current allotment and allows consideration in a later round. Read the instructions displayed for the current allotment before making a final choice.

Q. What if a student receives a message demanding money for PMSSS admission or verification?

Treat it with caution. AICTE states that it does not charge for its SSSJKL counselling assistance, and document verification at the authorised FDVC is free. Do not send money, passwords or personal documents to an unofficial agent or messaging group; use the official student portal for notices and grievances.

Q. Can a candidate who registered for PMSSS last year reuse the same details for the 2026-27 fresh counselling?

The 2026-27 AICTE registration screen specifically instructs candidates previously registered for 2025-26 counselling to use a new email address and mobile number when registering for the current fresh counselling year. This is separate from an existing recipient’s NSP scholarship renewal, which uses the prescribed renewal process.

Q. Who should a student contact if the application or allotment record contains an error?

Use the grievance facility available in the registered candidate’s AICTE login and provide the Candidate ID, student name and active contact number. AICTE lists jkadmission2026@aicte-india.org for 2026-27 admission-related queries. Corrections and appeals are subject to the published windows; contacting the helpline does not automatically restore a cancelled seat.
